Starting from scratch

The first step towards my perfect wardrobe is to figure out the foundations. Getting this right will – let’s hope – lead to success in this ambitious mission. So I started with something I always find fun: making lists.
First, a list of materials I like. Then a list of colours I like and, more importantly, like wearing. For example, I love yellow but I don’t really love wearing yellow. And as a last list (for now) what adjectives I want to associate with my wardrobe. Here we go:
Materials I like
- Cashmere
- Wool (the not so scratchy kind only)
- Felt
- Viscose
- Cotton
- Angora
- Leather
- Cord
- Denim
Colours I like
- Grey
- Beige
- Warm brown
- Black
- White
- denim blue
- Pastels, especially rose
- Terracotta red
- Silver
- Navy blue
Adjectives & Association
- Simple
- Elegant
- Effortless
- Comfortable
- Sophisticated
- Clever
- High quality
- Minimalist
- Statement
Now that I have this big picture view, I can think one layer down. It’ll help me decide which pieces to add to my wardrobe and which don’t actually fit into my vision.
